Does this make you feel better?

Excerpt from article on San Diego 6 news website regarding new cases of the swine flu, where several of the cases in the US have been found.

"If this particular strain was causing as bad a disease as some people fear, based on the information from Mexico, then we should really be seeing lots of really sick kids in the ICU and we haven't," he said.

  • This is just like the Bird Flu. It's marginally dangerous to people already in very poor health. Everyone else has almost nothign to worry about.

If you have a very small baby, be careful out there. Swine flu or no, there are bad germs out there.

  • MEDIA HYPE. Don't fret.. do you know how many illnesses there are out there within any given second of your life... Trillions. I tell ya, this is a hype to cover up something else.

  • Has this reporter studied up on how some highly transmissable viruses work? The CDC and W.H.O. (which HAVE studied these things) state that we could have a mild first wave, with a lull during the summer, only to have it come roaring back with a vengeance when the weather starts getting cold. The problem with this flu is that it is NOT like the regular flu which affects mainly the eldery, medically fragile and very young, but primarily young, healthy adults in their 20's and 30's.

  • That quote was from the ICU doctor at a Children's hospital, not a news reporter.

  • I worked for a person who specialized in inoculations for the CDC. I can tell you it is not all hype. Sooner or later, because of our global community and our lifestyles, there is going to be a pandemic of disasterous proportions. That is not being paranoid that is fact. But it isn't because of it being some huge super virus. No, our own stupidity is what will do us in is what CDC top officials say privately in their homes to friends/family. You see there will always be people who don't think the threat is real and selfishly not take reasonable measures to protect themselves. So they will also put more at risk. There will be people who try and get others sick. Crazies in every lot I guess. And our society is not set up and equiped to handle large outbreaks. Our bosses still want us to work, we deny the possibility of being sick on an individual level, and not enough common sense to go around.
