Breastfeeding/Spitup Question

So, when a baby cant handle something (like a new food) in their stomach they spitup. Well my daughter (just turned 5months) has started spitting up when I only breastfeed. But if I give her something like bananas (mixed with a bit of formula and a bit of cereal) she doesnt spitup at all. And its everytime I feed her. There isnt anything that I can really think of that I am eating that would be in my milk EVERY time. What could this be? The formula is milk based (but again she can drink it without spitting up)

  • What are you eating...anything different? If you eat something acidy then that may upset your babies stomach. Just remember that whatever you eat your baby eats.

  • Chocolate will cause babies to get upset tummies when you breastfeed. Have you maybe been eating more than usual? Try nursing for a few minutes, then burping her before she nurses more.

  • I am not eating anything that is particularly different as apposed to two weeks ago when she wasnt really doing it. I am still eating like I used too, which means I eat a little of everything. I eat different vegitables and fruits each day, with different meats. I am using the same spices I have always used. I drink chai tea like I always have. She never used to spit up when she was born. Then she started here and there. But like I said, recently it has been alot.

Anon, I think its a possiblity. But sometimes she doesnt really eat that much.
Ive tried letting her get really hungry and feeding at the first sign of hunger. It didnt seem to matter either.

If I feed and she falls asleep, she spits up when she wakes up.

  • Does she seem upset when she spits up? It may not be that she is reacting to anything in particular. She may just be eating too much. If she doesn't seem upset by the spitting up, I wouldn't worry about it.

Usually a food sensitivity causes some other problem as well. Diaper rash, rash around the mouth, crying fits, green mucousy poop... if there aren't any other symptoms, its probably not a food sensitivity.
