How much should I charge for babysitting?

I'm watching my neighbor's daughter today and I'm planning on watching her everyday this summer (for 6 weeks) if today goes well---which so far it is. :) She is 6 years old (almost 7) and is a really good child. She plays well with my kids and overall, isn't a burden at all. I do have to provide my own food (meals, drinks, and snacks). What would you charge? Is $20 a day too much? I've always stayed home w/my kids, so I have no idea what would be fair. HELP me please. :D

  • $20 a day is more than fair.Check out craigslist in your area to see what other providers charge. In my area (STL) services go for $25-$30 a day.BUT if your just trying to be nice then $20 a day seems alright. Those who charge $25-$30 a day(like myself) are trying to make a living off it it.Be aware you will send about $5 a day in food.

  • i'm charging my brother and SIL $300 a month to care for my neice. anywhere from 3-5 days a week and 5 to 9 hours each day.
a friend of mine has a childcare out of her home and she charges $35 a day and the kids bring their own food.
    i think $20 a day is a good deal. ;o)

  • I used to babysit. I think that $20 is a very good price especially since you are providing meals and snacks.

  • That sounds really fair. I watched my friend's baby awhile back and got 150 a week.

  • i babysit a 12 month old and his mom pays me $20.00 for a half day (6 hours or less) $30.00 for a full day (anything over 6 hours) i think $20.00 is fair. i think it's a good price.

  • $20-$25 a day is reasonable. You are caring for her, feeding her, entertaining her and no matter how good the girls get along RIGHT NOW, it will feel like a JOB to you after the first week. I watched my friends son last summer, she paid me $25/day and I watched him 2 days a week. He's sweet and the kids mostly played nice, but it was actually a bit harder than I thought it would be. I would do it again though if my friend asks.

  • We've paid anywhere from $24-$30 for a day of someone watching Xalen. When I work, he has to be watched for about 9 hours.

  • Oh, and it's us providing the food...but if he has to go somewhere away from home and he doesn't like what I sent for him, then they provide the food.
