What is REAL vanilla?

Is it the same as pure vanilla extract? I have a couple of recipes from a diet site that call for REAL (and yes, it was in caps, so apparently important) vanilla. If its actually the bean or whatever, where would I get it?

  • They probably meant pure vanilla extract and not artificial vanilla flavoring.

  • You'll know the real stuff from the vanilla flavor by the price...not to mention the label. Real and Pure are the same. You don't want the label to read "Vanilla flavor" anywhere.

Real vanilla extract is expensive. (Like real Maple syrup vs. Mrs. Butterworth's)
