"the current outbreak of the H1N1 virus, which emerged in San Diego and Mexico late last month, may not even do as much damage as the run-of-the-mill flu outbreaks that occur each winter without much fanfare."

  • 700+ people die every day from the regular flu. So no one should be more worried about this one than that one, just to put it in perspective.

There have been no reports that this flu causes a cytokine storm... that was the flu of 1918, and is the going theory about why it was so horribly deadly. Getting this H1N1 flu confused with that H1N1 flu is apparently something people are going to do, but that isn't accurate. You can find out more here.

That would fall under "doing damage"

  • Because the media has to blow everything out of proportion for ratings. How many times over the past few months have we heard the term CRISIS?

  • Headline News reported a baby in Texas died from it.

Not to be heartless, but, so what? That's one person in over 300 million. Hardly evidence of a rampant deadly disease that will wipe out masses of people. How many babies died in the entire US due to regular old generic flu this year?
