  • If pedophile is attempting to attack or take a child, no charge.

  • I'm against hate crime legislation period. If someone is in the act of taking or harming a child I don't think there should be any charges, should be considered a form of self defense.

  • All crimes are hate crimes. You shouldn't get a lighter or easier sentence based on the victim's race or sexual preference

  • EVERY Crime is a HATE crime!

  • I agree with the previous OPs, all violent crime is hate crime.

  • IF the crime took place in order to directly protect a child then no, it's not a crime, it's protection. However if someone finds out that they have a pedophile next door and they go shoot them just because then yes, it is a crime and it was done out of hate. It should be treated as so. Anytime a crime is commited against someone because of what they are be it color, religion, sexual preference or criminal record it is a hate crime.

I do have to say though that NOT all crimes are hate crimes. In fact most are not. Violent criminals in many cases don't target others out of hate for the victim, but hate for themselves. Others commit crimes of passion or opportunity again, these are not hate crimes. It doesn't make them any less damaging or any less horrid, but it's a difference that needs to be mentioned.

  • if they are protecting a child from the pedophile than they shouldnt be charged w/ anything. but if they find out theres one in the area & beat them, thats wrong & they should be charged. when you are trying to hurt/kill someone JUST b/c they are a pedophile, homosexual, or their race isnt the same...its a hate crime. killing someone b/c they cheated on you, or you wanted their money is not a hate crime, its just a crime.

  • Who doesn't hate pedophiles?

For those who say "all crime is hate crime" -

A HATE CRIME is not just defined by the violence. It describes the motive behind it. Do you really think that a person having their wallet stolen and maybe getting punched in the face is the same as a person being singled out for being gay, being tied to a pole, tortured, burned, beaten, and left for dead? Do you really not see the difference in that?

Do you understand how disgusting lynching was when it was a regular occurance? It's not JUST about the person that is being tortured (and yes being tarred and feathered is torture), it's about the message of fear it sends out to people of a particular race or sexual orientation. It says that if this is your life you will be treated in this way. How is that the same as all other crime???

  • ANon 9:18 here - and no beating up pedophiles is not hate crime. Being a pedophile is not a defensible legitimate lifestyle. It's still illegal to beat them up though unfortunately.

But you can send them to jail, put them in the general population, and then let the other prisoners know what their in there for. Let them take care of it...
