When you use bias tape for an edge of fabric, is it supposed to show on the outside?

I'm following a dress pattern's instructions. It says to use bias tape for the armholes (it's sleeveless) but when I do as it says, there's the white tape side showing on the outside of the dress. So confused! Any help for a newbie? TIA!

  • my mom just showed me a way to not have to use the tape. I like it better. you slightly fold the fabric and iron it down then sew it like that. it looks cute to me :)

  • Cut the tape as it shouldn't show. The tape comes in different widths so either cut it or buy smaller tape.
