What does ear drainage mean?

My son has an ear infection and now his ear is draining. It has been draining a clear yellow fluid all evening. It has not stopped since it started. Is this normal? Is that much normal? He's never had an ear infection before so I don't know what to expect.

  • I was always told any drainage from the ear with an infection is called "swimmers ear" Basically it's the water/bacteria draining out. If he seems to be in pain, or the antibiotics are not helping, call his Dr again. I have had many many ear infections, and this has happened to me.
