ticks

this is the first warm season we have lived in the country, and our dogs have ticks all over them. well at least 3 on one of them, and to me thats a lot. we pulled what we could find off of them, and gave them both flea/tick baths. what else should i do?? we found one in our bed the other morning, omg, i freaked. we have a 5 month old baby, and i dont want them on him. ive thought about bombing the house, what should we use?? and how about collars?? they have run of about 2 acres of land, i dont know if our hose can reach that far to spray the yard. omg, im just freaking here, i hate bugs!!! please help with any suggestions....

  • We use frontline, but the only one you will find that will work with this magnitude is the one from the Vet. Its worth it, b/c if you get a flea infestation, you'll be working your tail off trying to get rid of them. Frontline is great. We take our dogs camping and in the woods and the ticks do get on them, but die. The same with fleas. Don't waste your money buying the one from Walmart.

  • There are bombs you can use for the house as well. Any good garden supply or hardware store can recommend a good brand. But you need to make sure you & the dogs & especially your baby are out of the house for several hours. You will need to seal all clothes & bedding in plastic bags, set off the bombs & leave. Afterwards, you return & air out the house & wipe down all the surfaces. Maybe DH/SO could take on this job & you go away for the weekend with the pets & baby? I'm not sure if you have any place you could do & take the dogs but I would even consider a local hotel if the bugs are truly freaking you out. You can spray the yard, but you are right, you probably won't be able to reach all of your property. Still, get what you can & that should help. You can also talk to a professional exterminator.

  • frontline is really good and maybe keep the dogs out of certain rooms so the ticks do not get help traveling
