  • Oh no! Is he a juvenile? When we had chicks, our adults would pick on the babies. Now that they're all adults, they seem to be getting along. If he is, you might want to separate them until he gets bigger.

I've never had my hens pick on a rooster-- or vice versa, actually. Usually the ones fighting are the hormonal roosters themselves.

  • He must be young, or of a lesser breed. Roosters aged 6months or older and that are crowing in the mornings have taken charge. If you rooster is young or is not crowing yet, he may never and may be submissive or ill, or just of a smaller lesser breed and your hens know that. Your rooster will eventually be killed off by the hens, separate them till the rooster gets older or find him a new home. Poultry can be aggressive and cannibalistic if things don't go their way.

  • If he ever starts crowing, you'll know he's come of age. Maybe another month good luck.
