Can teething cause sleepiness?

My 9 month old is cutting his top teeth. He's had a runny nose which is common for him when teething but he also developed a fever this morning which has never happened. He's a little more fussy than usual but he's also been very drowsy. Is this normal for teething or could it be something else?

  • Teething can cause a fever, i'm not sure about sleepiness though. I would call the dr to be sure he's not coming down with an ear infection or cough or something.

  • Yes it can cause sleepiness. Anytime my kids were teething they would be tired because they didn't feel good. As long as it's a low grade fever (99-100) I wouldn't worry. If it's above 100 he could be coming down with something. If your concerned you can always call and check with your Dr.

  • when my son was teething he slept soo much. to the point where we went to the dr. he would sleep from 8pm to 9 am and nap from 10 to 4 and somtimes take a small nap between 5 and 7. It was insane!!! all the dr said is enjoy it most parents complain about thier baby not sleeping enough...we r lucky i guess :)
