Screening on may 12 to see if baby i okay or has defects what do they do.. what is the screening like. How does the procedure work..

Im 4 Months prenant an its my first baby an i have an appointment may 12 for the screening my main concern is , is it just an ultrasound or what exacly an what should i expect in this procedure????

  • Its not a TON of blood. Are you having your prenatal blood work done, or is it specifically the AFP screening? If it is the AFP screening (that is usually done between 12 and 16 weeks) it is a small vial of blood, and if those results come back showing something of concern you are given an ultrasound to confirm.

  • Its a blood test. They will take a ton of blood and send it in. If they find something they will ask you if you want an amnio done and you can say yes or no. Now the test can be wrong if they are even 1 day off on your conception day. They can also do an ultra sound for certain defects. By the way its PREGNANT.
