Can I wear black pants and a white shirt to a funeral?

What shouldn't a person wear to a funeral?

  • That outfit sounds fine.
I would say that the ONLY think you can not wear is BRIGHT SUMMERY colors

  • no bright colors at all. Just neutrals like tan, brown and shades like grey, black, white.

  • Color-wise it's not inappropriate, but if there's a function afterward you might be mistaken for a caterer. I'd try a different color on top unless you want people handing you dirty toothpicks and empty glasses. ;-) You can wear color if it's muted, nothing flashy. And no flip-flops!

  • I've noticed ...usually the people wearing all black or mostly black is family. Guests are usually just dressed up in nice dresses or suits, no particular color.

  • My husbands grandmother isnt expected to live much longer and so I ve been sorta thinking about what to wear in my mind (without telling anyone). I always wear black pants. I have a cobalt blue button up shirt and a white shirt and I am going to borrow a black blazer from my mom. I think its very appropriate. Just make sure you wear appropriate shoes. Dress shoes. They don't have to be close toed, but just so that they are comparable to the outfit. My sympathies for whomever died.
