Can you use 1/2 the butter in a cookie recipe and replace 1/2 with shortening?

I don't want to use up both sticks of butter in the house. When I make chocolate chip cookies can I use 1/2 c.butter and 1/2 c.shortening?

  • Yes you can. The flavor will be a little different, but it won't affect the consistency of the cookie.

  • and if you want an even healthier recipe you can use 1/2c butter and 1/2 cup applesauce.. still comes out nice and moist =)
