  • to make sure that it hasn't turned into something more. i had one come back abnormal years ago, had to go back in for a more "in depth" type pap they took a cone shaped amount of cells from the cervix to see how bad it was and it came back as the type that leads to cervical cancer so i had a LEEP surgery done, where they scrape off about 2-3 layers of the cervix, then had to go back in every 3 months for a year and every 6 months for a year to have a pap, have had all normal ones since then. so really its just to get more cells to determine what type of HPV it is (there are i think like 31) and to see if it is likely to cause more issues for you in the future. the "cone" test (which was a type of biopsy so i would assume thats what you are having) is to make sure that you will be ok if it goes untreated.

  • honestly i'm shocked they didn't do it with the first one that came back abnormal. don't freak out yet, just wait on the results. the surgery i had was outpatient took about 30 mins and i left the hospital about 2 hours later after the anesthisia wore off. it was a little painful for a few days but after that it was fine. just wait to see the results of the biopsy and ask at the next visit what would they do with the results etc..would you be put on meds, would you have to have surgery, etc..that way you know what to expect before the results come back and its not as much of a shock

  • oh ok, well like i said before, try not to freak out, the fact that they are having you come in now and do it means its something that can be caught right away if its one of the more serious types.

  • i had an abnormal pap. they did a colposcopy, which is a biopsy done in the same office, and then had a LEEP done to make sure they removed all of the abnormal cells. a LEEP is a loop thing that uses electricity to 'burn' away and scoop out some cervix. be warned, it smells like burning flesh. blegh!

  • This same exact thing happened to me. The next step is usually a coposcomy (or however you say it), which they normally dont do when youre prego. They take a peice of cervix to see exactly how abnormal the cells are and if theyve changed. For me, it was more uncomfortable than hurting. I couldnt even tell when they took the peice off. The next step after that is continued PAPs every 6 months to monitor it.
