Can Doctors have tattoos?

A tattoo will make a doctor loose his credibility?

Could he loose his license because of it?

Any thoughts about tattoos and stereotypes?

  • Considering how many doctors are former military and how many military had tats before it was "fashionable" I'd go with no

And no, he can't lose his license, that's ridiculous.

  • Why couldnt a doctor have one? Maybe it would be better if it were in a place that could be covered to keep a more professional look. Tattoos don't make people bad though.

  • Well, I don't know what your doctors have looked like, but I wouldn't want to search mine (any of them) for tattoos. That said, I don't care if they are in the common places (arms or able to be covered by their clothing - which in that case I wouldn't know about them), but I wouldn't want to be seen by a Dr. with tattoos on his / her face, neck, hands, or any other exposed area.  JMO.

  • In the News: Pediatrician Refuses Patients with Tattooed Parents

Tasha Childress' daughter was sick, so Tasha took her to Christian Medical Services to see Dr. Gary Merrill. But instead of kind, empathetic, Christian care from this "upstanding" doc, what Tasha and her daughter got was pointed toward the exit door. Dr. Gary Merrill refused to even see the child because her mother has tattoos and body piercings.

One doctor speaking on behalf of the AMA (American Medical Association) says any business reserves the right to refuse service, "be it a restaurant if they’re not dressed properly, be it any other type of business.”

  • I think in a private practice she can refuse anyone she wants to. And a patient has the right to refuse treatment from any doctor tattooed or not.

  • This day and age, I can't believe anyone still judges a book by it's cover. Haven't we learned anything yet?
