What do you think of Medicare covering for Viagra

Sexual performance drugs like Viagra (search) are covered by Medicare's new prescription benefit which started on 2006 and at cost estimated of more than $500 billion over a decade.

  • Not true, I am a licensed insurance agent with AARP MedicareRX and AARP Medicare Complete which has part D included. Viagra and other ED drugs are on Medicares excluded drug list. The only way a member can have it covered is if the company provides that medication on a bonus formulary and plans with a formulary that is not approved by medicare cost much more than standard medicare part d plans. The company itself is choosing to cover these meds. Most companies will not cover them at all. AARP covers them at a discount if you have the enhanced plan but you will pay about $70-90 a month on preimums depending on what state you live in. Medicare also excludes drugs like Xanax, Prescription Vitamins and Cough and cold medications.

  • So you don't think senior citizens or others on medicare/medicaid have the right to get their groove on just like everyone else??? ED is a medical problem ya know.

  • It is a function of life. They should be able to function as well as anyone else. A medicine is a medicine. It really is none of our business.

  • I have no problem with it. I hope my hubby and I are able to get it on when we get old! Besides people pay into Medicare via salary reduction.

  • Here is what I think since you asked, lol, imo Viagra is not medically necessary. God made us slow down as we get older for good reason & dirty old men are disgusting enough as it is, without any help from Viagra, yuck!

  • Old people need to get it on too!
