nasty smell in carpet. HELP

we smelled this horrible aweful smell last night and we thought it was the little fish tank so we moved it to another room and the water didnt smell. it still stunk so bad in the room. so i was smelling the carpet and sure enough it is the carpet. its really nasty. it kinda smells like old fish. gross. how do i get this out? i put baking soda over it and its been on it for about an hr now and i covered it with a towel so no one would step there. is there anything that works really good?

  • Vinager is good to help remove smells. Like if you rent a carpet shampoo machine just put a little vinager in the water.

  • Sprinkle with baking soda and spray with a mixture of vinegar and water (get it wet). Let dry and vacuum.
