  • I started my child at about 8 weeks. It became VERY clear that the formula wasn't do it for her anymore. I would give it to her only at night, before bed time. And in the morning for breakfast. They only need about a tablespoon. Make sure you don't over do it. It seems like very little but they have extremly small stomaches.

  • thats dumb, their stomachs arent fully developed until about 6 months. so doing that can cause digestive problems for them along with many other things.

  • If giving it to them early could cause stomach problems..then why do they tell you to start way before 6 months anyways?

  • No solids until six months. Many nutritionists now recommed avocado as baby's first solid.

  • feeding standards change.

when i was a baby my mom gave me solids before 6 months. I believe i had cereal and fruit around 1 month and was at meats by 3 months. i have no digestive problems.

i myself do however follow my doctors reccommendations and current standards. You can give cereal at FOUR months. this is according to WIC and my doctor. you start baby food/solids at SIX months. WIC doesn't have you start juice until 9 months, but my doctor said she could have it at 6. She has no interest in it though.

listen to your doctor, your instincts, and your baby.

  • I started at 8 weeks with my oldest but that was because he had reflux that wasn't being treated with medicine. I also used oatmeal instead of rice cereal.

  • We started my little girl on cereal in a bottle (1 tsp per 4oz bottle) at 4 wks old. People will bash me for that, but oh well. My doctor didn't seem to mind. We started her on cereal from a spoon at 3 months, and fruits and veggies at 4 months. Every doctor or pediatrician or mom will say something different as far as what's "best" for "every" baby, but only you know what's right for YOUR baby. I know what's right for my little girl, and I feed her according to my own judgment.

  • Hey people, cereal is SOLID FOOD!!! LOL! Silly people. We started solids at 5 months due to my daughter's extremely bad reflux. Off a spoon or she fed herself.
