  • Swine flu is a strain of flu that affects both people and pigs. This outbreak started in Mexico and has killed some people there but the annual death of regular seasonal flu is about 36,000 people so it's not something unexpected. People are getting it by coming in contact with infected pigs or (most often) with infected people. It's not any more virulent than regular flu so covering your face with a tissue when you sneeze, coughing into your sleeve and washing your hands often will help limit the spread. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose and you're pretty safe. It's not air borne so you don't really need the masks that people have been getting.

All in all, it is a concern because it's spread so fast but it's not a grave concern if you take common sense precautions.
