What's this profession called?!

What are the nurses called that are in the delivery room when you give birth and take care of your baby when he or she is born?

  • An L&D nurse.

The neonatal nurses specialize in caring for the newborns. Since many hospitals don't have nurseries any more, most hospitals just use the L&D nurses or have only 1 neonatal nurse on duty. Unless the hospital has a NICU - all of the nurses in there will be neonatal nurses.

A Pediatiric nurse will care for infants and children but generally not newborns.

  • Yes. That's what I want to be someday when I have time to go back to school. I have an autistic son and right now he has 3 therapists and 1 early intervention teacher working with him every week. Whenever his therapy isn't so intense I'm hoping to go back to school for this.
