  • Ideally, they should stay with their mother until 12 weeks old, but definitely no younger than 8 weeks. A lot of backyard breeders and pet store puppies (from puppy mills) will sell them at 6 weeks, though.

  • 8 weeks is usually the minimum. Some moms wean thier dogs before that though. Just depends on the pup I guess.

  • blujeanlady62 to answer your question, it's my dog that had 2 puppies. I was looking for a date to let the other family know when to expect their puppy. DH thought it was around 6 weeks, I thought that was way to young. I am attached already so the longer he stays the better by me. It's a friend of ours, they are just so excited and want him asap. I just don't want to let him go to early.

  • Experienced, professional breeders that sell quality AKC show dogs (not puppy mills) usually place the puppies in their forever homes at 12-16 weeks.

  • 8 weeks is best but some do it sooner which i don't like. they need to be taught and socialized. later is better.

  • i got my dog when he was 4 weeks and he's very healthy. i only got him that early b/c he is a runt and the ppl weren't taking care of him right, he had fleas and ticks all over him. i got them off with blue dawn and took him to the vet the next day to see about shots and other such things.
