  • A baby never ever needs to be given sugar water!! Sugar will rot a babies teeth(yes, even teeth still in the gums),no health or nutritional value, will reak havoc with the insides, and water is to harsh for their little tummies.

    A baby only ever needs breastmilk,or at 2nd best,formula.

No juice until 6 months, then only baby juices or watered down juice.

I've never heard of such a thing.. Must be an old time wives tale.

  • are you breastfeeding or formula feeding? a breastfed baby never needs anything besides breastmilk. if you're using formula, sometimes the formula can be a bit thick, and so you'll want to water it down just a smidge.

i, personally, would never give a baby sugar water

  • I really can't think of a single good reason to give a baby sugar water.

  • Don't give the baby sugar water. Babies don't need water. You can put brown sugar in their formula/breastmilk though. A tablespoon of brown sugar to 4 oz of formula/breastmilk. That's what I did with my daughter. It really helped her constipation.

  • I've never heard of anyone giving a baby brown sugar, or sugar water for constipation. My mother reccommended Karo Corn Syrup, or Prune juice, and they worked like a charm. Formula CANNOT be watered down, if formula is too strong, or too weak, it can stunt a babies growth, and not give them the nutrients that they need.

  • I have a 4 week old and we put a small amopunt of prune juice in his bottles once or twice a day. Babies get all they need from breast milk and /or formula, so talk to your doc about this.

  • If baby is constpiated on the formula CHANGE THE FORMULA. No sugar, please. No prine juice, either...too early.

Remembe that constipation is passing hard dry pellets. Not pooping is NOT constipation.

  • a five week old baby should not be having sugar or water. You can (and should) start offering water in a sippy cup at around 9 months. Water is a great and healthy habit.
