snakes in my yard

we live out in the country and we have snakes really bad. like we see one about once a week. we can not even let out kids out to play. anybody know how to keep them away. we have 4 cats that we keep out there and its still not working. our dog got bit by we are assuming a snake and died last week. any ideas.

  • if you go to the hardware store there is a product that is basically lime granuals looks like sea salt. you sprinkle it in your yard and it burns their bellies so they don't come in. we used that in MS when our neighbor found a cottonmouth in their yard. you just have to make sure you wear shoes in the yard, it didn't bother my dog, not sure about cats though.

  • you can also get some cats. have your cats outdoors and they run the snakes away. if a snake can taste a cat in the air they won't come near. (a guy that sells snake told me that)

  • or you could sprinkle sulfur around the perimeter of your yard and it does the same as the lime as does moth balls something about the smell of moth balls
