what does having a short cervix thats soft and thin mean?

Im 36 and a half weeks pregnant and I went to the doctor yesterday. When she checked my cervix i was dilated to a one and she told me that my cevix was soft and thinned out. and it is short. what does that exactly mean? will i go into labor soon?

  • The cervix stays firm while you are pregnant to protect the baby. As you start to dialate and prepare for birth the cervix also changes. I'm not exactly sure what short means, but I know it has to be soft and thin for labor.

  • it's a good sign... you just really never know when you'll go into labor, some women can stay at 1, 2 or even 3 cm for weeks before they go into labor. but, to me it sounds like it could be soon. congrats!
