Any luck with natural remedies for ADHD?

6 year old newly diagnosed with impulsivity problems. Trying to avoid medication if possible.

  • Take away anything with red food dye in it.

  • Nothing made any difference in my kid at all. I hope you have luck with diet alterations. It doesn't work for all kids.

  • Research into food.. taking out dyes, whey, dairy, or other stuff can make a HUGE difference!!!!!!!! Even "normal" kids behavior will change if we altered their diet to take away some of those things.

  • Once I take away certain things, eg red dyes, how long should it take to see a change? I want to try and eliminate things one at a time, and not make everyone nuts in the process.

  • I have a 13 year old who has had impulse and attention issues that became problematic in second grade. We already ate a mostly vegetarian, mostly whole foods, mostly organic diet, though I read every label before putting anything in my cart. We started giving her fish oil supplements the summer before 3rd grade; by the time school started, she had improve a lot.
