  • It's from Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice... a debt couldn't be paid and the guy who had loaned the money demand a pound of flesh instead.
    In common usage, the phrase is "a pound of flesh" and is used to mean any legal but unreasonable recompense for a debt.

  • I think it means 7 pounds of guilt. He killed 7 people in an accident and he's carrying that guilt.
