9 month old with a high fever

some people say teething does cause a fever and some people say it doesn't. well my sons top teeth are coming in. he never complained when his bottoms came in. he is still laughing and trying to play, but you can tell he doesn't feel good. and he's really hot. i can't find a thermometer.... so from your experience, can teething cause this? i guess i'm just wondering if i'm being a paranoid new mother and this is completely normal. or if i should start thinking about calling a doctor tomorrow. Thanks for all your help, i know this question probably gets asked all of the time.

  • Yes, he is probably running a low temp. If you can I would give him the appropriate dose of baby Motrin for pain. Tylenol is great for fevers but Motrin works better on pain, which may bring about the elevated temp. Sometimes teething brings about loose stools too. If he's feverish in the morning, call the nurse line but if he's still playing and eating I wouldn't panic.

  • Give him the infant tylenol if he has a fever and see how he does. Both my girls had a fever and diaper rash while teething. My DR said they weren't related however when teething stoppped the signs went away. Tylenol will help w/ pain and fever. Just keep a close eye on lil man!:)
