  • Just try to put yourself in their shoes. Let them know you arn't trying to replace their mother. It takes a lot of patience. What are their ages? Are there any paticular games they like to play? And just like any parent be friendly but don't try to be their best friend. Later when you have to discipline they won't take you seriously. And be consistant. Don't change your mind because you feel bad for them. That's what worked for me. Hope it helps.

  • Same with parents who adopt, it is like your JOB to get along with and help make a relationship flourish because you chose to marry into this family and become this child's step mother. Try to be honest (no one likes people talking behind their backs), and do little things for them like finding out their fav foods and making sure it's always in the house (my son loves making sandwiches so I try to always have bread, cheese, lunch meat in the fridge)...
