  • * cloth diapers and wipes
    * our toddler gets a family shower with daddy instead of his own bath
    * A/C runs as sparingly as possible
    * no unnecessary driving (do errands all at once one day a week)
    * make in my kitchen absolutely everything I possibly can (household and personal care included)
    * use debit card only to withdraw cash twice a month. We purchase everything in cash.
    * restore our credit so we can take advantage of the housing market
    * cut cable TV (kept the net so we can watch our shows on line)
    * cut rate cell phone (Cricket - if they're in your area, consider switching. No contract and unlimited local, long distance, and text usage for less than $50 a month!)
    * eat out twice a month instead of once a week
    * hubby takes all his meals to work
    * growing some of our own vegetables; it's amazing how much will fit on 10 feet of balcony with a little planning
    * farmer's market produce to can and freeze for

  • My husband just got a 20 percent raise with his company. They are doing well and are keeping their employees happy. We are living like we always have within our means. We put 25 percent of our income into savings, investments and college funds. We put another 25 percent into charity. We pay 33 percent in to taxes. We live on what is left over which is quiet a bit since my husband has a great income.

He could lose his job like anyone but it is not likely. If he did we have enough put back to live like we do for years. Again we don't mindlessly spend and live way below our means.

  • We are saving, like we have been doing (roughly 30% of our income). We have been able to get kick arse deals on some cool stuff because of the economy. But I use saving as a teachable moment.I have made coupon cutting and implementation a family fun-day adventure! My kids cut them, when we goto the store, they help me find the best deals. They also have to help me unload and put away.... The $$ difference from using coupons, I let them keep. But it's Double coupons, so I still save roughly $16-20 They each walk out of the grocery with (on avg) $8.00. But they are a HUGE help too. We also eat out one night a week using the Entertainment Book, and we eat out for breakfast on Sundays. Each month I put $ into an envelope for fun (rent wii games, movies, bowling, ice cream, etc)When that money runs out they have to wait till the next month.

  • Nothing different. We are saving, paying for things in cash, and staying out of debt. We haven't had any decrease in income. (In fact, we've had an increase!) So we will continue to be good stewards of our money...

  • Same things we have always done ... we had to support three children ( IN Sonoma County, of all the expensive locations! ) on my husband's teacher salary and my part-time jobs. It is amazing what people around me spend their money on, and then they don't spring for important stuff like music lessons for their kids. go figure !
