How much should a 7 month old eat per day?

Solid foods, how much? My baby is 15 pounds (small for her age) and she eats about 5-8oz of solid food 3 times per day. Plus a lot of juice and water and she also breastfeeds. She never voluntarily stops eating, she either keeps going until the food/drink runs out or I take it away from her. Whenever that happens she screams hysterically for more, even if her little tummy is bulging out and hard as a rock from all that she just ate and drank. I don't want her to grow up to be a fatso, but I don't want her hungry either. What do I do about that? Her doctor said 5oz/day but that's ridiculous, my kid would starve.

  • As much as she wants AFTER nursing. She should be bulkinbg up on breastmilk, with everything else a mere afterthought. Breastmilk packs more calories than solids. If you let her "tank up" as long as she wants at the breast, she likely will not want to much in solids...she actually NEEDS none right now.

  • She nurses pretty fiercely before each meal, but still will eat sick amounts per meal. I just want to make sure she isn't overweight, especially so young. I know she doesn't "need" solids but she will not sleep without her dinner (always veggies or meat since she hates fruit) and she loves it so much.

  • My daughter is 7 months old and 22lbs. She eats solids three times a day (veggie and cereal only) and takes 6oz bottle w/each solid. For lunch she only get an 8oz bottle. The doctor tells me to feed her as much as she wants. I was worried about weight gain but the doctor said she'll loose it once she starts walking. Plus obesity doesn't run in our family so I'm going to let her eat. No meat, fruit or juice yet. She gets about 2oz of water a day.
