Why does my firewood smoke white?

I bought a face cord (delivered) for our outdoor fireplace and have never before had problems burning before now. This wood smokes white the whole time it burns. It started smoking so bad at one point that it made my DD sick! Even when it was burning really good a fair amount of white stinky smoke came off of it. What can I do?

I want to have fires in the evenings this summer since I'm planning on hosting BBQs and pool parties this year. But I don't want a fire that smokes so bad it makes people want to hurl! This is our first year here and I've only burned in the fireplace a few times before, but it didn't smoke like this.

  • has the wood properly seasoned? If it's still wet it will smoke alot.

  • BTW- it is a round metal one that looks almost like a BBQ grill but with a tall grate around the sides, and lid over the top.
