  • It depends but usually when they are 4 years old.

  • Usually age 3 by the time school starts in September. Most schools have a shorter week (maybe 2 hours a day or 2 days a week) for the 3 year old class and a longer week for the 4 year old class (maybe 3 hours a day or 3 days a week). My guy goes 2 days a week for 3 hours a day and he's 3. Next year he'll be in the 4 year class and going 3 days a week for 3 hours a day.

Of course if you feel you kid isn't mature enough for preschool you can always wait and just send them one year before kindergarten or not send them at all for that matter.

  • It all depends...
Some schools have preschool programs for kids as young as 2. Some start at 3, some at 4. Some will potty train, some want kids already trained.
Some parents don't think it's needed, some do.
Some kids are terrifed and scream and cry non-stop, some go happily, some are a mix.
Some kids get plenty of time to learn to work with other kids (playing on the playground is different than sharing the toy kitchen or paints with 10 other kids) - some are mostly on their own.

You have to decide what works for your family and your child. We choose 2 half-days a week, starting this fall after she turns 3. When she's 4, we'll up it to 3 days a week. The other days we either have little classes (playing ball, ice skating, dance, gymnastics, swimming, etc) or have our own field trips (zoo, ride a train, visit the airport).

  • We just started my son a few weeks ago at the age of 4 years old. He goes 2 days a week for about 4 hours a day. As kaycee said it all depends on what is available in your area, what you can afford, and what you feel is right for your child. Kindergarten isn't even madatory in most states and preschool definitely is not mandatory.

  • My son is 3.5 and hes starting in September. We enrolled him in a local community preschool and its 2 days week 2 hours a day for 45$ a month. But, he also has a speech problem so the scool district is going to be supplying him with therapy at the local elementry school the other 3 days. SO we will be in 5 days a week 2 hours a day...
