  • I started my kids off with baby cereal when they were 3-4 months old, at about 4-5 months started the fruits and veggies. By 9-10 months, I would try to cook meals that they could also eat if I could smash it up well enough. I would make meals with rice, soup with soft veggies, pasta dishes, french fries/tator tots, bread broken into smaller pieces, soft cereal bars with fruit. Our pediatrician had never discouraged this and there hasn't been any issues with weight or diabetes (I mentioned it to a nutritionist and she wasn't happy about our eating arrangements). My kids are very healthy and don't have any problems with picky eater (THANKFULLY!). We cook 95% of our meals at home and have a variety of different foods so they get to try many things out. When they are really young, just make sure to space out a couple days between new foods in case there are any allergies.

    Good Luck!

  • I often used a food processer to make the food really small (but not like a smoothy) when my daughter was in that stage. She ate practically everything we ate, minus heavily spiced foods. It's cheaper then buying all that baby food anyway.

  • I have a 10 month old and he basically eats whatever we eat. Chicken (cut in small pieces), pasta, veggies, loves fruit, crackers, cheerios, cheese, beef, rice, bread, you name it he eats it. I make sure it is soft enough and in small pieces. If we are having something spicy for dinner then I make him the gerber raviolis and some frozen veggies and a fruit. He loves it. He loves french toast and pancakes for breakfast.
