  • According to the book, "Prescription For Natural Healing";

Capricin destroys the candida fungus responsible for what is know as Thrush

I don't know if this is recommended in such a young child, though.

Nystatin is a drug that is prescribed with good results also.

  • In an older child or adult:

You need to reduce or eliminate sugar from the patients diet. This is the big key cause thrush lives on sugar.

Add live yogurt to diet & gargle with salt water or salt water + apple cider vinager.

Proper dental hygiene is also very important.

Reoccuring thrush infections can be a symptom of blood sugar instability too so if you find your child is getting them reoccuringly you should check with your doctor for juvinille diabetes (this was my first symptom when I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes).

For a one year old honestly though, as they're unlikely to cooperate with gargling and oral rinses medication is you best bet.

  • PS GV stains everything, so be careful with it!!

Also if she is breastfeeding, you will need to treat nipples as well.

  • A friend of mine swear by rubbing a lemon in the child's mouth but I would never ever do that personally.

  • I used genetian violet with great results after trying nystatin from the doc and it didn't work (two rounds of it and we still had thrush). I als elimnated as much sugar from my diet at I could and used the GV on my nipples after every nursing session. It does stain everything purple so be prepared.

  • You can use grapefruit seed extract. Worked great for me and my babies.

  • Yep, Gentian violet. Just ask the pharmacist. Most can order it for you if they don't have any in stock - less than $8 a bottle.
Dress her in something you don't care about - or nothing at all.
Go outside so it won't drip and stain anything.
Use a q-tip to paint her lips and inner checks.
Take a picture - she'll look like a little "goth" baby with black lipstick.
    Wait a week.
If the thrush is not gone, try one more time.

After Nystantin failed to work on my daughter's thrush, this is what her doctor told us to try. Worked like a charm.
