how long do I have to live with BF before we are considered legally cohabitating in the state of VA?

  • not sure about respective states. i thought the general rule was 6 years for it to be considered a common-law marriage

  • Here you can apply for common law status after 6 months, you get it automatically after 5 years I think.

    No common law marriages in virginia, unless you met the qualifications in another state and moved to virginia according to the above link.

  • Common law marriages are recognized only if they were entered into in a jurisdiction other than Virginia that recognizes them as valid.
