birthday cakes

How to people that make cakes get them into the shapes that people want. For example i am wanting a cake in the shape of a pony. Is that possible? Do they make special cake pans in the shape of things? IF so where do you find them? ANyone know about making cakes. Some people are so talented. I am not.

  • You can usuallu buy pans in different shapes at craft stores. Thats where i always got mine other than that most people use regular pans and cut the shape they want. I dont do that unless its a bunny because its alot of work and hard But if there is a michals craft stor near you they might have one. Good luck =)

  • Some stores have pans that are different shapes. Usually you find things like rabbit shapes for easter, or shamrocks for St. pattys, hearts for valentines, etc. It's harder to find a different shape. My best suggestion would be to ask around at Walmart or hannaford or whatever you have for a cake store to see if anyone could make you a cake in the shape of a pony. If not, then perhaps drawing a pony on the cake (get a stencil from walmart craft section, wash it first, and then carefully lay it over a chilled frosted cake. It shouldn't stick to the frosting already on the cake..then use whatever icing you want to draw the pony..)

    GL! Hope you find something!

  • I do cake decorating out of my house, it is really not that hard go to michaels craft store, johann fabrics or hobby lobby to get the cake pan. or you can just make a square cake, take it out of the pan, freeze it, then cut it into the shape you want. If you cant, print out a large pic. of a pony, cut it out place it on the frozen cake and trace it with a knife. You can but frosting tips for 0.65c. if you want, that make little stars. Get a zipplock baggie, cut a corner off of it, drop the tip in it put your frosting in it and color your cake however you want give me a sec and I will put a pic of one on here for you....

  • You can order them from somewhere who specializes in cake design, or you can go the cheaper way and buy a cake pan and do it yourself. I have some pans in the shapes of a barbie, dinosaur and doll
