How can I get a stinky odor out of a vacuum cleaner

My in-laws loaned their vacuum cleaner out and it came back with the most awful, musty, smelling smell.I do not know how to describe it but it is bad. They said (when asked) that they just vacuumed their house and had no clue why the smell is there. I have tried various carpet cleaner products. Cleaned the vacuum and changed the bag, of course. I was thinking that vacuuming up some baking soda, do you think that may work? Any advice would be great..Thanks...Dezi

  • I would suggest trying the baking soda. Good luck! I had to use a stinky borrowed vac once...Yuck!

  • Lavender. Get some dry lavender, spread it on your carpet and vacuum.
