Welfare to be eliminated?

What would happen if welfare was to be eliminated? I read where California is thinking of doing this. Would this make people responsible for themselves?
I see this as a positive thing in some ways. What do you think?

  • California has no choice they are out of money. They cannot print money and taxpayers in other states should not have to bail them out. They have to cut things. It sucks but this is what happens when you allow Unions to run the show. This is what happens when you allow Government to get too big.

  • Good point PP. I guess it is going to really start rolling downhill. I just wish that people that are already making enough to live on would not want more and more and more. The big bank execs that still wanted their bonuses under contract even though they ran the banks into the ground. People that want almost everything for free. This is what added to the problem.

  • BUT.....what would they do with all that money?! LOL

Would the taxpayers get a tax break or would the money be utilized elsewhere?

This poses another problem: With many people not on welfare looking for jobs, how will it affect the people on welfare when they try to get jobs that aren't available?

The state has to care for the unemployed, homeless, and impoverished somehow, or they better build huge homeless shelters because they will be filling up for sure!
