sound violation ?

I am not sure what category to put this in, so hope I can get some answers here. I know in our town if people complain about your music (or whatever) being to loud you can get ticketed for a sound violation. Well about 2 blocks away from our house there is a park and they often have festivals there and stuff like that. This whol Memorial Day weekend (meaning Friday till Monday) they have this festival. Friday night they had their music playing till 11 pm, Saturday night till 10pm, well now here we are on Sunday night at 10:30pm and they are still playing! It is so loud we can't go to sleep and hubby has to be at work at 6 in the morning.

How is it legal for them to have their music so loud but if we had it so loud here at our house we'd get ticketed??

  • Check your city's 'quiet' hours policy and see if it is a violation, of so call in a complaint to the city police. Maybe they had to pull a permit or something for the party.

  • Noise polution is normally handled through the department of health. You can call your state dept of health and inquire if they are in violation or not. If they have a permit for the activity they're doing, they're most likely not in violation.

  • They have to get a permit from the city. And it depends on the time the noise ordinance starts in your county. Where I live is 11:00pm.

  • If they are violating local ordinances, the organizers will be cited and fined...as long as you file a complaint.
