If we're all equal and race doesn't matter

Why do the words "woman" and "latina" or "hispanic" show up within the first 2 sentences of every article about Obama's new SCOTUS nominee? Suddenly NOW they are job qualifications?

  • I don't have a problem at all with a minority getting the nomination. The problem arises when the ethnicity out weighs the credentials.

  • I can't say for sure, but I imagine it has something to do with the issue of giving immigrants amnesty. But like I said, I can't say for sure.

  • That's a great point. I'm tired of it too. I imagine it has something to do with showing how far we've come from all that, but it really just perpetuates it even more.

Why can't we just move on? Don't we all bleed the same d*** color?

  • Oh, let me add that I don't hate anyone based on race/gender/etc.... I just think you're blind if you truly feel that we are all treated equally and that race has nothing to do with anything....these things still run rampant through our society.

  • But how do we move past it when people insist on including race in gender in places where it should have absolutely no bearing?

  • Oh geeze...minorities get 2 steps ahead and NOW all of a sudden we're equal and race doesn't matter...NOW the majority race wants us all to play fair...NOW we all bleed the same color. Funny how your perception changes when you're no longer the one in power, isn't it?

  • mizkaye, if the nominee had been a caucasian male, it would not have been mentioned as such. Ditto a caucasian female. So tell me again why it okay to lead with "gay" "latina" "black", etc when discussing nominees?
