thumb sucking

My daughter who is going to be 8 weeks on Thursday has started to suck her thumb. Everytime her pacifier falls she sticks her thumb in her mouth. Any advise on how to stop this before she gets older?

  • she's only 8 weeks old! sucking on fingers or a pacifier is comforting, much like sucking on a nipple! dont worry about what the future holds yet! most babies outgrow it!

  • i'd let her suck on her thumb. why are people so mean to babies? denying them any sort of natural comfort. why is it only ok for artificial soothers?

  • i don't know. My daughter wouldn't take a pacifier, she just likes her thumbs. She's a year old now and still uses her thumbs. It really doesn't bother me. Seeing 1 to 4 yr old children using pacifiers really bothers me.

  • I agree with the anonymous responder. Why do so many take away so many comforts that babies have so quickly yet say that they are not forcing their children to grow up faster or taking away their innocence? My almost 3 year old sucks his thumb to go to sleep and I don't care. It is a comfort for him. My baby just found his thumb and I love it because I don't have to carry a damn pacifier around everywhere.
