The girdle itself doesn't tighten your stomach, however wearing one (if you can manage it!) may actually help you tighten those ab muscles. When you wear a girdle you are essentially forced to stand straighter and suck in your gut; in other words you are walking around with your abs pulled tight which in turn, works them out. Granted, it works much, much, much slower than doing crunches or sit ups would...and if you aren't doing cardio as well you may never see those tightened muscles...but it can help. I would advise you to not wear a girdle that is way too tight, as this can cause stomach discomfort by pressing on the intestines and aside from that it's just no way to live.
