  • This -- http://nuvoforheadlice.com/method_explained.htm  It's a little time-consuming on the hair-dryer use, but no chemicals, no fumes, and my favorite part, no obsessive, insane cleaning sprees.  You have to scroll almost half way down the page before you get to the actual treatment.  And do it exactly like it says.  It works; I swear by it.

  • The most effective thing is to simply remove the lice. Use a nit comb to remove the eggs and tweezers to remove any adult lice you find. Yes, you will feel like an adult monkey grooming her child's fur and it can take several days. But this does work.

Or you can try one of many different ideas: coating her hair with things like mayonnaise, olive oil, or vaseline, putting a shower cap on and leaving it overnight, then washing it really well the next day. This MAY smother the adult lice but most likely just helps to physically wash them and the eggs away.

I've also seen people recommend dog shampoo but keep in mind that it contains chemicals just like lice shampoos do.

  • rub olive oil on their scalp and hair and put a plastic cap on and keep it on over night or for a few hours. Then wash thouroughly. The lice and eggs can't survive. good luck. You also need to vacuum every day and wash all bedding in HOT water and a HOT dryer to kill the little varmits. If there are any stuffed animals you need to remove anything with fabric on it and place it in a garbage bag - seal it up - and leave it this way for a month - again to kill any stray eggs. Good Luck.

  • The olive oil works very well to smother the adult lice.......and it helps to loosen the nits (eggs) but they will still need to be removed from the hair shaft. A nit comb should easily remove the remaining nits. Wash linens, bedding, carseat covers, etc as stated above. Then repeat it all in 7 days. If for some reason you missed a few nits, they will get it in the repeat process. :) blessings!
