How old was your child when he/she could write their name?

My lil Emily is 4 and learning she as problems with the M and the Y.....any tips

  • 3, 2 1/2 and still waiting.


    Practice, practice, practice. Work with other words that will interest her to write, don't just stick to her name. M-O-M-M-Y would be a good one!

    Do the letters in dotted lines for her and have her trace them.

    When reading and you see the letters, see if she's interested in tracing them.

    (pushing could backfire into total refusal so just go with her flow here.)

    She'll get it.

  • I would say just keep working with her. Mine started any where from 4 years and mastered it by age 6. I think it just depends on each child.

  • Four-five years old...it just depends on how early you start having them practice

  • Erick was three when he started writing his first name, he's now four and can write his first and last names. My advice is to be encouraging and consistent.

  • I worked with daughter for while but she got it at three. She loves telling ppl she can write her name and spelling it out for them

  • my childs name is Emilee she could write it 2 weeks before she turned 3 (thats what i wrote on her paper when she did it) but she writes it in all caps not lower case and she calls the M an up and down letter

  • I would cut her letters out of paper or somthing and let her glue noodles tissue paper just diff things to her letters also did the trace dot thing

  • my daughter, Jamie is 4 years 4 months, she has been writing her own name for about 2 1/2 months now. the J is upside down most of the time.
