Know any Austen & Heyer readalikes?

I'm stuck in a huge rut. I'm just not a fan of sauced up romance. the ones with the "heaving bosom, moist with perspiration" and the occasional "throbbing member" HaHa :0D No thanks. Sorry folks!

CAN ANY OF YOU HELP THIS SORRY SOUL FIND AT LEAST ONE FABULOUS RAUNCH-FREE ROMANCE other than those of Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer? I'm going crazy here!

Many thanks!

  • What about Louisa May Alcott. "The Country Bachelor" was phenomenal in my opinion. Right up there with Mansfield Park as far as I am concerned. It lists "adult content" but isn't disgusting.
"North and South" by Mrs Gaskell is kind of that simple romance story.
"I Capture the Castle" by Dodie Smith is as well.
Anthony Trollope isn't as subtle with his writing, but has much the same style as Austen.

  • I am a Jane Austen fanatic. Even named my son Austin. Yet, I know what you are saying. You want something a bit more modern without a half naked guy on the cover. Who really reads those?
Try Nora Roberts. She is a bit main stream for my taste. I did love the Irish born trilogy. Born in Fire, Born in Ice, Born in Shame. About sisters set in Ireland ( obviously )The three books intertwine with each book focusing on one particular sister. They are available as individual books as well as all three stories in one binding.
