Military DITY Move?? Renting Uhaul or Budget Moving Truck?? How much did it cost you? How much was Gas for one of those things? What was there MPG??

Anyone done a full DITY move since the 2009 change? How did you did? How much did you end up spending? In the long run was it worth the pain to do it yourself? We have always done partial DITY moves and cleared around 3000 once all was said and done. We've heard that if you do a full people clear closer to 8000 what has been your experience with this? We are moving to fort hood. Army will give us after taxes abotu 9500 to move ourselves, which i think is more then enough, i mean if they are going to move us their movers end up breaking my steuff anyway i might as well do it myself. Have you done it? Who did you rent your truck from? What did it cost? We wont have too much stuff as we plan on tossing just about everything but our MB set , cribs and TV as the rest of our stuff has gone threw 5 moves and it shows. any info would be great.

  • We did a full dity move.About 10 years ago..It's more trouble than it's worth. We moved form Fort Lewis, Wa,to Fort hood, Tx..You have to weight the truck empty, then full..Then pack the truck,yourself..Hope you have only one POV.Cause you can only tow one,,You'll have to drive the other. Then when you get there you have to unload the truck,,yourself..The only good thing about it is when, you move in your stuff is there. If you do not pack that truck right your stuff still can get damamged..We spent 18 out of my DH 20years in the army, PCSing,,about ever 3 years..Most all our stuff got tore up/damaged.

  • Yea we moved 5 times in the last 5 years, and military movers have just about broke all of our stuff, that why we thought about doing it ourselves. If we break its on us, but we are way more carefull with our stuff then they will be. So we are debating whether the potenial profit is worth the headache and backache lol
