I'm totally confused with the SPF. I see sunscreen that is 70 SPF. I normally buy Coppertone Sport and Coppertone Kids. Both are 45 SPF. Both of my kids can tan wonderfully, but I can not tan. I burn really fast. Is it ok to let my kids use 45 SPF? Should I buy a higher SPF for myself? Should I buy the highest SPF for my whole family? What is the best sunscreen?
If there is a web site about sunscreen that would help me better understand what SPF is all about, please share it with me!
I reply sunscreen every hour. And I follow all the sunscreen directions.
Thank you!

  • SPF 45 is fine. I would be much more concerned with the safety of the ingredients in Coppertone products.

Here is a guide to sunscreens:

  • I was told that anything over SPF 50 is just a waste of money because nothing really protects any higher than that.
If you burn quickly, then you need to be mindful of that and reapply sunscreen more often.
Even though your children tan beautifully, they are still being harmed by UV rays and need to have sunscreen reapplied, too.
    Have a safe summer!
