What is a child life specialist?

My son is having some tests done at Lebonar Childrens Hospital and they said they would talk to child life to get him someone to help distract him while they put all his wires on for an EEG. What exactly is child life? What do they do? Thanks so much!!

  • Child Life Specialists provide opportunities for children of all ages to master the healthcare experience by preparing and supporting them through medical procedures. Therapeutic play sessions take place in playrooms and at bedside.
