  • Put him to bed later. Keep him awake a good 4 to 5 hours before bed. Our daughter goes down by 9 and gets up around 7 every day. If we put her to bed to early then she is up at 5 or 6 am. Slowly move his bed time to a later time or shorten a nap so he is a little more tired at night. Our daughter takes a nap at 3 and is up no later than 4:30 and goes to bed at 9.

  • When this happened to us at this exact same age, we tried both putting her to bed earlier and later (because we got both pieces of advice). She woke up at the same time, like clockwork, so we ended up keeping the earlier bedtime so she'd get more hours. Now I have a nearly 9 month-old who wakes up between 5 and 6 as well... she will actually nurse and go back to bed most days, so we're going that route (not that it matters much since our first is currently on a 6:30 wake-up kick at 2 years old lol). What worked for our older daughter to start sleeping longer was she just outgrew it. By about 11-12 months, she was sleeping till 7 regularly.
